What cigarettes contain
Cigarettes contain over 4,000 chemicals including carcinogens, Carbon monoxide and Tar.
Carbon Monoxide is carried around the body in the blood replacing the Oxygen and depriving the cells of vital energy. This makes the cells age faster. The heart is made to work harder to meet the demands of the tissues. After so many years of this habit, the heart becomes tired and increases the likelihood of cardio vascular problems.
Quitting Smoking
Trained Consultants
At Jaysons Pharmacy, we have a number of PCT trained smoking Cessation consultants who will work with you for up to 12 weeks
Motivating and working with you
The consultants motivate you and work with you to help overcome any barriers to successfully quitting smoking.
They are not judgemental. They understand that it is hard to break years of habit and like learning to ride a bike, you may fall down a few times, but this is normal part of a learning curve.
Dependence
The years of smoking causes a dependence on the active ingredient, Nicotine as well as Psychological dependence - the habit of smoking.
The Stretegy
The consultants provide you with Free Nicotine Replacement Therapy like Niquitin, Nicotinell or Nicorette Patches as appropriate and/or additional chewing gum, inhalator or microtabs if you smoke over a certain amount of cigarettes a day.
The combination therapy helps to give you basal cover through the day using the patches whist the intermittent therapy using the gums, inhalators and microtabs are used to control those breakthrough cravings.
Gradually, the strength of the patches can be reduced at a pace that you are able to cope with. With support from the consultant, this gradual change becomes painless, smooth and manageable eventually leading to less and less dependence on the replacement therapy.
The habit dependence is where the team working between yourself and the consultant becomes important. This is why we try our best to keep the same consultant working with you through the change period. Together you identify what makes you smoke and what habits are associated with smoking. Knowing that you make small changes to your habits and replace some of the activities and routines to break the link between smoking and the behaviour.
It is important to make only small and gradual changes, and so that the whole change process is easier. They also set small achievable goals. This sets you in the right direction and continues to motivate you. What do i do next?
