Hay Fever

Hay Fever Season has begun.


Hayfever is an allergic reaction to pollen and causes an allergic inflammation of the nasal airways, and effects around 1 in 5 people.

The symptoms of hay fever include:

  • frequent sneezing
  • runny or blocked nose
  • itchy, red or watery eyes (also known as allergic conjunctivitis)
  • an itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears

Less commonly, sufferers may experience:

  • the loss of your sense of smell
  • facial pain (caused by blocked sinuses)

  • headaches

It’s not just grass and flowers that causes Hayfever, other plants cause people to suffer the symptoms such as, trees: Alder, Birch, Oak, Ash, Elm, Poplar, Hazel, Yew, Willow, and Pine, and other plants e.g. Mugwort, Rapeseed and Nettles. All of which release their pollen at different times of the year and peak at different times and different periods of time. An example of this is the Alder tree releases pollen from January – mid April and peaks between the end of February to mid April.

Treatment for Hay Fever is simple, but depends on your symptoms.
