Hydrocortisone has anti-inflammatory and antipruritic (reduces itchiness) and therefore used for itchy, irritating and inflamed skin. They are generally used to relieve symptoms and suppress signs of disorder when other measures such as emollients are ineffective.

Often, inflammatory skin is also associated with dry and itchy skin. For this, it is best to use the Hydrocortisone 1% cream in conjunction with an emolient. Emolients replace moisture back into the skin and leave a thin film of medication over the skin encouraging retention of moisture and preventing sloughing or flaking of the skin.

Bacteria and fungus also live on our skin - usually our immune system keeps them in control and in balance. However, either when you are run down or when there is excess sloughing of the skin, they grow out of control causing secondary infection associated with dry, itchy, inflamed skin.
